Message from the Chairman:
Mark H. Dambly, President, Pennrose Properties, LLC

On behalf of the Institute for Economic Development, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the Chester YES website. Herein you will find a wealth of information concerning Chester’s major public and private organizations, and their individual and collective efforts to shape the direction of economic development in the city for years to come. As well, you will find information concerning the city’s history, community, and its range of offerings to residents, businesses and visitors.

As our web pages demonstrate, it is an exciting time in the City of Chester. Harrah’s Chester Casino and Racetrack now attracts four million visitors a year to the city and with the recent launch of table games offers a world class gaming and entertainment experience. PPL Park is now home to Philadelphia Union, Major League Soccer’s newest team. With a variety of sporting and entertainment events planned for the venue, the expectation is that one million visitors a year will come to Chester to enjoy the park. New off ramps proceeding from the Commodore Barry Bridge/New Jersey into Chester will be complete by August 2011, offering better access to the city and its main attractions. New, more modern housing developments are now a reality – the homes in Wellington Heights and Crozer Hills offer attractive options to families interested in locating in the city. As well, University Crossings, the new retail and residential complex on Providence Avenue launched by Widener University and Crozer Keystone Health System, is home to the Widener Best Western Hotel & Suites, a 7-11 Convenience Store, and TD Bank, the first new bank to open in Chester in 15 years. Chester is also home to Crozer-Chester Medical Center, which was recently certified as a Primary Stroke Center, and continues to earn a prominent, national reputation for hosting a world-class regional burn treatment center. The city’s business community is as diverse as its citizenry, and now hosts several growing technology companies that uniquely position the city to compete and win in the local, regional, national, and international marketplace of the 21st Century.

Over the past several years, the Institute for Economic Development has advocated for the City of Chester, its government, and its citizens through focused initiatives concerning marketing, sustainable economic development, tax structure studies, and housing issues. City government is very supportive of the business community and is truly dedicated to economic development. With all that is happening in Chester, Pennsylvania’s first city is a great place for businesses to invest!
